The ledger
Rebuild and the Deron years (2003–2011)2010–11 Utah Jazz
For half a year this looked like one of the better Jazz teams of the Deron Williams era. Utah opened 15–5, and after a 121–99 rout of the Cleveland Cavaliers the team peaked in mid-January at 27–13, the fourth-best record in the Western Conference at that moment. Nothing about the first three months suggested what came next.
17 in, 6 out. Every move the record shows for this season, with the reason where a source gives one. Where no reason is documented, the entry says nothing rather than guess.

17 ARRIVED2010 NBA draft first round pick (#9 overall)
- Utah took him ninth overall in 2010, a pick that surprised even him, and matched Charlotte's maximum offer sheet in 2014 to keep him. In 2017 he left for Boston on a four-year, $127.8 million deal, reuniting with his Butler coach Brad Stevens — his agent said the decision broke his heart.
- His half-court shot at the buzzer of the 2010 NCAA title game rimmed out against Duke.

- Was drafted out of high school in 2004, in one of the last prep-to-pro classes.
- Background: REASON (Utah): a direct replacement for Carlos Boozer, who had just left for Chicago. GM Kevin O'Connor: Jefferson is 'one of the better low-post players in the NBA'; on his age: 'the fact that he's 25 years old ... but he's somebody that's been around.' source

- Won the NBA championship with San Antonio in 2007.
- Background: Elson on the Jazz style: 'They play with a lot of intensity and very defensive-minded, very pass-oriented team, so everybody gets involved.' Asked whether he is a Jerry Sloan type of player: 'That's the only way to play. It's your job.' source

- THE REASON IN 2007 — the Jazz had no shooting: in nearly half of their first 32 games they shot under 35% from three. Kevin O'Connor (VP basketball operations): 'We think Kyle is a good basketball player who has proven he can make shots and proven he can play in the NBA.' After the trade Utah won 19 of the next 22 games and finished 54-28. Korver: 38% from three, ~10 points in 23 minutes as the sixth man. source
- THE REASON IN 2018 — shooting again: the Jazz were 9-12 and 29th in the league from three (under 32%). Korver was 37 at the time and shooting 46% from three, with 2,238 career threes (4th all time). KSL: 'Utah has generated the highest-quality of 3-point looks this season. They just aren't making them.' Cleveland (4-15) were in asset-collection mode, and Korver 'had been eager to be moved to a contender'. source
