Alaska shaped him: the family moved to Juneau from Washington, D.C., after a seven-year-old friend died in his arms following a neighborhood shooting. Boozer won the 2001 NCAA title at Duke, slid to 35th in the 2002 draft, and in 2004 signed a six-year, $70 million deal with Utah amid a bitter falling-out with Cleveland. Twice an All-Star, he carried the 2007 Jazz to the Western Conference finals, averaging 23.5 points and 12.2 rebounds that postseason.
With Team USA he won Olympic bronze in 2004 and gold in 2008. He finished his playing days in China with the Guangdong Southern Tigers and completed his Duke degree in 2020, eighteen years after leaving campus.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed with Utah on July 30, 2004 in the move that made 'pulling a Boozer' league slang, and gave the club six seasons and two All-Star nods. He hit unrestricted free agency in 2010, and rather than lose him for nothing the Jazz sign-and-traded him to Chicago for a $13 million trade exception.
