Corbin earned a computer science degree at DePaul before San Antonio drafted him in the 1985 second round, and he stretched that modest start into 16 NBA seasons and 1,065 games. Utah acquired him from Minnesota for Thurl Bailey early in 1991-92, and his steady two-way play helped the Jazz reach two Western Conference Finals in three seasons.
He married his high school sweetheart, Dante, and their son Tyrell was named Utah's Mr. Basketball in 2011 — the same year Corbin, after seven seasons as Jerry Sloan's assistant, suddenly inherited the Jazz head coaching job upon Sloan's resignation. He held it through 2014 and has since coached on staffs in Sacramento, Phoenix, Orlando, and Charlotte.
HOW HE CAME & WENTMinnesota sent him to Utah for Thurl Bailey on November 25, 1991, because the Jazz needed a smaller forward who could guard quicker lineups. Three years later, with three small forwards on hand and a need for size, they traded him to Atlanta for Adam Keefe.
