Bryce Cotton

Doctors once told his mother to plan a funeral — a rare form of epilepsy struck Cotton as a boy in Tucson, and his last seizure came on the final day of sixth grade. He climbed from there: a Providence scholarship offered three days before freshman orientation, two first-team All-Big East seasons, and brief stops with Utah, Phoenix and Memphis after going undrafted in 2014.

Australia became home. With the Perth Wildcats he won three NBL championships and five MVP awards, then added a sixth MVP with Adelaide in 2026 — one shy of the all-time record. He took Australian citizenship in 2025 and debuted for the national team the following year.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUndrafted, he signed a 10-day contract on February 24, 2015, came back for summer league and preseason, and was waived on October 20.

  • Has been named NBL Most Valuable Player in Australia multiple times.
  • Rejected by Montana State, Northern Arizona and even Division II Chico State, he got his Providence offer three days before freshman orientation.
  • His uncle David Adams, a former Dallas Cowboys running back who scored on his NFL debut, became the mentor who drilled him on the mental side of sport.
  • As a Providence senior he was the only player in the country averaging over 40 minutes a game, including every minute of four double-overtime games.
  • On a December night in 2024 he scored 59 points against the New Zealand Breakers, the most in any Australian league game in thirty years.
  • With the score tied and three seconds left in a 2026 finals game, he took the rebound himself and raced the floor for a left-handed buzzer-beating layup.
