Born in Saskatoon to an American father and Canadian mother, Lyles moved to Indianapolis at seven and left high school as Indiana Mr. Basketball. After a Final Four freshman year at Kentucky, the Jazz drafted him 12th overall in 2015. He played two seasons in Utah and made the 2016 Rising Stars Challenge before becoming the answer to a trivia question — traded in 2017 in the deal that brought Utah the rights to Donovan Mitchell.
Lyles has kept working ever since: Denver, San Antonio, Detroit, three years in Sacramento, then Real Madrid, where he scored 24 points in the 2026 EuroLeague final. He signed with Minnesota in July 2026.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah took him 12th overall in 2015. On draft night 2017 the Jazz sent him and the rights to Tyler Lydon, the 24th pick, to Denver to move up to 13 and take Donovan Mitchell.
