Baseball clubhouses raised Donovan Mitchell — his father worked for the New York Mets — but basketball made him famous. Drafted 13th in 2017 and promptly dealt to Utah, the Louisville guard scored 41 as a rookie to break Darrell Griffith's franchise rookie scoring record from 1981, won the 2018 Slam Dunk Contest and made the All-Rookie First Team. Five seasons as the face of the Jazz followed before the 2022 trade to Cleveland.
With the Cavaliers, 'Spida' scored a franchise-record 71 points in a single game and made the 2025 All-NBA First Team. A seven-time All-Star, he grew up idolizing ballplayers — the first poster on his wall was the Mets' David Wright.
HOW HE CAME & WENTDenver drafted him 13th overall in 2017 and traded him to Utah the same night for Trey Lyles. Five seasons later, on September 1, 2022, the rebuilding Jazz sent him to Cleveland for Lauri Markkanen, Collin Sexton, Ochai Agbaji, three unprotected first-rounders and two swaps.
