Nine teams in seven NBA seasons — that was Brown's playing card after Arkansas and a fourth-round selection by New Jersey in 1982, with the 1988-89 Jazz among his stops. He earned CBA All-Defensive honors in 1983 and finished his playing days in Italy with Reggio Emilia.
Coaching became the real career. Brown scouted for Milwaukee, then spent two decades as an NBA assistant in Portland, Detroit, Toronto, Boston — where Doc Rivers used him as a defensive coordinator — Dallas, and elsewhere, filling in as head coach on short notice more than once, and served as interim head coach of the Brooklyn Nets in 2016.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed a 10-day contract on March 1, 1991, a second ten days later, and then for the rest of the season.
