Inglewood High went undefeated and won the 1980 national championship with Humphries in the backcourt, and at Colorado he led the nation in steals in 1982-83. Phoenix took him 13th in 1984, Milwaukee got his prime years, and the Jazz traded Blue Edwards for him before the 1992-93 season. He scored 25 points in a Game 2 playoff win over San Antonio in 1994, part of Utah's run to the Western Conference Finals.
After touring China in 1998 with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson on a team of retired stars, he made coaching a global trade — head jobs in South Korea and China, first head coach of the D-League's Reno Bighorns, and NBA assistant work in Memphis and Brooklyn.
HOW HE CAME & WENTMilwaukee sent him and Larry Krystkowiak to Utah on draft night 1992 for Blue Edwards, Eric Murdock and a first-rounder — the Jazz wanted a backup for John Stockton. In February 1995 Utah traded him to Boston and got Edwards back.
