Out of tiny Walstonburg, North Carolina, Edwards set East Carolina's single-season scoring record with 773 points and finished sixth in the nation in scoring in 1988–89. Utah drafted him 21st overall in 1989, and he made the All-Rookie second team in 1990. His first six seasons were split among the Jazz, Bucks and Celtics, with Utah at both ends. He later recorded the first triple-double in Vancouver Grizzlies history and competed in the 1991 dunk contest.

These days the story is simpler: Edwards coaches at Greene Central High School in Snow Hill — the same gym where he played as a teenager.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah took him 21st overall in 1989. He left, came back, and then went unprotected — Vancouver claimed him 26th in the 1995 expansion draft.
