Salt Lake City is on his birth certificate, but San Antonio made him — the city's all-time leading high school scorer, then UTSA's career scoring leader with 1,922 points and the first Roadrunner to post a triple-double. Undrafted, Brown climbed through the USBL and the D-League, where he was 2003 MVP, and won the 2005 championship with the hometown Spurs.
Utah signed the restricted free agent that September, and he gave the 2005–06 Jazz 81 games and 7.5 points a night before going to Golden State in the Derek Fisher trade. UTSA later retired his number, the first in the school's history.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah needed a shooting guard after trading Kirk Snyder and losing Raja Bell. He signed a two-year offer sheet in September 2005 and San Antonio declined to match. He went to Golden State in the Derek Fisher trade the following July.
