Derek Fisher

Five championship rings came with the Lakers, but Utah got a meaningful chapter: acquired from Golden State, Fisher helped lead the 2006–07 Jazz to the Western Conference finals. The Little Rock native, Sun Belt Player of the Year at Arkansas-Little Rock in 1996, retired holding the NBA record for postseason games played with 259.

In 2007 he asked the Jazz to release him from his contract because of his daughter's health, and the team agreed. He went on to serve as president of the players' union, coach the Knicks and the WNBA's Sparks, and pledge $700,000 to his alma mater, which named a gym in his honor.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah acquired him on July 12, 2006 for Keith McLeod, Andre Owens and Devin Brown. A year later he asked to be released so he could move his daughter closer to specialist cancer care, and the Jazz let him go.
