A Virtus Bologna product who turned pro at 17, Fontecchio worked his way through Milan, Alba Berlin, and Baskonia before the Jazz signed him to a two-year deal in July 2022 — a 26-year-old NBA rookie. He gave Utah a game-winning dunk against Golden State that December and twice scored a career-high 24 points before a February 2024 trade to Detroit.
For Italy he has been a mainstay: leading scorer in three games at the Tokyo Olympics, All-Second Team at the 2023 World Cup, and author of a 39-point Italian record night at EuroBasket 2025. He now plays for the Miami Heat.
