Roger Powell

Powell started every game for the Illinois team that won 37 games and reached the 2005 national title game, finishing his college days with 1,178 points. Undrafted, he was named CBA Rookie of the Year with Rockford, then earned a spot on the 2006–07 Jazz, reuniting with Illini teammates Deron Williams and Dee Brown. His first NBA points came on two free throws against Phoenix in November 2006.

Cut that January, he found the career that stuck: assistant coaching at Gonzaga and, today, head coach of the Valparaiso Beacons. His father played at Illinois State, and Powell holds an Illinois degree in speech communications.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUndrafted, he worked his way onto the roster out of camp and scored his first NBA points on November 18, 2006 — two free throws against Phoenix. The Jazz cut him in mid-January after three games.
