Mo Williams

Jackson, Mississippi produced him, Alabama refined him — a freshman starter on a 27–8 SEC championship team — and Utah drafted him 47th in 2003. The Jazz declined to match Milwaukee's offer sheet after his rookie year, then watched him become a 2009 All-Star in Cleveland. He came back to Utah late in his career and won the 2016 championship with the Cavaliers before retiring in 2017.

The whistle came next: assistant at Cal State Northridge, head coach at Alabama State, then head coach at Jackson State in his hometown, and in March 2026 an assistant's chair at Kentucky under one of the sport's biggest programs.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah drafted him 47th in 2003 then declined to match Milwaukee's $5.5 million offer sheet in August 2004 — a call Kevin O'Connor later named the worst of his tenure. A four-team trade brought him back in June 2012 and Portland signed him in 2013.

Had two separate spells with the Jazz, a decade apart.
The trade that sent him to the Clippers gave Cleveland the draft pick that became Kyrie Irving.
He scored 52 points against Indiana in January 2015, a Minnesota franchise record that ended a 15-game losing streak.
He credits his career to 5 a.m. workouts at the YMCA on Fortification Street in Jackson every day of high school.
In Cleveland he wore number 2 because his usual number 25 had been retired for Mark Price.
In 2015 he became the first player in fourteen years to win Player of the Week in both conferences in the same season.
Carlos Arroyo and Raul Lopez were both ahead of him at point guard in 2004, which is why the Jazz let Milwaukee's offer sheet stand.
He said he wanted to stay in Utah after 2012-13, but the club moved on and he chose Portland, drawn by his ties to Neil Olshey and Terry Stotts.
