Williams never started a game in his lone North Carolina season, yet his tip-in broke a 70-70 tie in the closing minutes of the 2005 NCAA final and sent the Tar Heels to the championship. Drafted second overall by Atlanta, he gave the Hawks seven seasons before a 2012 trade for Devin Harris brought him to Utah, where he spent two steady years at forward.
Bremerton, Washington raised him, and service traveled with him — Atlanta twice gave him its Jason Collier Memorial Trophy for community work. He finished his career with six seasons in Charlotte, retiring in 2020.
HOW HE CAME & WENTAtlanta traded him to Utah for Devin Harris on July 11, 2012, a salary-clearing move for the Hawks that gave the Jazz a wing they lacked. He signed a two-year deal with Charlotte in free agency in 2014.
