Fourth pick of the 2007 draft after one brilliant Ohio State season beside Greg Oden, he spent 12 years in Memphis and left as the Grizzlies' all-time leading scorer without ever making an All-Star team — until Utah. Traded to the Jazz in 2019, the steady point guard finally got his All-Star nod in 2021, at 33, running the league's best regular-season team.
No player has won the NBA Sportsmanship Award more — four times, a record that says more about him than any box score. Won three Indiana state titles in high school alongside Oden, and his father, an Olympic triple-jump gold medalist, negotiated his first contract as his certified agent.
HOW HE CAME & WENTMemphis traded its all-time leading scorer to Utah on July 6, 2019 for Grayson Allen, Jae Crowder, Kyle Korver, the rights to Darius Bazley and a first-round pick. Utah re-signed him in 2021 having no cap space to replace him, and traded him to Minnesota in February 2023.

- Has never been assessed a technical foul that stood — his only one, in 2014, was rescinded the next day.
- He won the NBA's first virtual H-O-R-S-E contest during the 2020 shutdown, played from the competitors' homes, raising 200,000 dollars for charity.
- In the 2007 NCAA tournament he scored 11 of his 21 points in overtime against Xavier after Greg Oden fouled out.
- He left the 2020 bubble for the birth of his son, quarantined on his return, then hit seven threes for 27 points in Game 3.
- Minnesota traded him away in February 2026 and re-signed him within two weeks, purely for what he brought to the locker room.
