They called him 'The New Washington Monument' at George Washington University, and Jazz announcer Hot Rod Hundley later renamed him 'the Brown Bear.' A third-round Bulls pick in 1985, the 6'10" forward-center made his living as a low-post workhorse across eleven NBA seasons, and his five years in Utah from 1988 to 1993 made him a fan favorite. He retired with 3,130 points and 2,762 rebounds.
Basketball never let go. Brown played for three clubs in Italy, then climbed the coaching ladder — the ABA's Las Vegas Slam, the D-League's Roanoke Dazzle and Fayetteville Patriots, and by 2007–08 an assistant's seat with the Chicago Bulls, tutoring their young big men.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe reached Utah on expansion draft day in 1988, when Charlotte took him from Chicago and traded him to the Jazz for Kelly Tripucka. Utah dealt him to Minnesota in 1993 for Felton Spencer, the man meant to succeed Mark Eaton.
