Raised in San Diego mostly by his mother and aunts — his father was a Missouri All-American drafted by the Clippers — he fought his way up through Pepperdine, a junior college MVP season and two All-Mountain West years at San Diego State, reaching the 2011 Sweet 16. Undrafted, he bounced through the Korean league, the D-League, the Lakers, Spurs, Bulls and beyond, and played 7 games for the Jazz late in the 2013-14 season before a July 2014 trade to Cleveland.
The grind never stopped: more than a decade after his debut he was still a working professional, playing for Sagesse in the Lebanese league.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah claimed him off waivers from San Antonio in January 2014, and traded him with John Lucas III and Erik Murphy to Cleveland that July.
