The son of NBA veteran Kenyon Martin, KJ skipped college for a postgraduate year at IMG Academy and went 52nd in the 2020 draft. Houston gave him room to grow: a 31-point night, all 82 games in 2022-23, a Slam Dunk Contest invitation. In February 2025 a five-team trade built around Jimmy Butler routed him through Detroit to Utah, where he played 19 games before a September waiver.
Southern California shaped him, from Chaminade Prep to Sierra Canyon alongside Scotty Pippen Jr., another famous basketball son. He signed with the Ningbo Rockets of the Chinese Basketball Association in November 2025.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe reached Utah on February 6, 2025, rerouted through Detroit in the five-team trade that sent Jimmy Butler to Golden State, and was waived just before training camp that September.
