Jusuf Nurkić

Basketball found Nurkić late. He was 14 in Bosnia when an agent took him to Slovenia to learn the game, and within six years Cedevita Zagreb had made him the 16th pick of the 2014 draft, dealt to Denver on draft night. Traded to Portland in 2017, he once posted 28 points, 20 rebounds, eight assists and six blocks in a game, the first player to do so since Charles Barkley in 1986. After Phoenix and Charlotte, he joined Utah for 2025-26.

Born in Živinice, he continues to anchor the senior Bosnia and Herzegovina national team, the role that first announced him to the wider basketball world.

HOW HE CAME & WENTCharlotte traded him to Utah for Collin Sexton and a 2030 second-round pick on June 29, 2025.

  • Once recorded a 24-point, 23-rebound, 7-block game for Portland.
  • He pulled down 31 rebounds against Oklahoma City in March 2024, the most by any NBA player in a game since 2010.
  • In January 2026 he became the first player in Jazz franchise history to record three consecutive triple-doubles.
  • His father Hariz is a police officer in the Tuzla area, a man of local legend standing close to seven feet tall.
  • He grew up helping on his grandfather's cattle farm, and the old bull farmer was delighted when the Bulls drafted him, before the draft-night trade.
  • At EuroBasket 2022 he led Bosnia to its first ever win over Slovenia, shocking the defending champions 97-93.
