Dothan, Alabama raised him, and the University of Alabama polished the 6-foot-4 guard whom the Mavericks took 20th overall in 1987. Farmer's NBA path crossed five teams in parts of five seasons, with the Jazz getting him in 1987-88 and his best stretch coming in Denver in 1990-91, when he averaged 10 points over 25 games.
Before the pros he saw the wider world, touring the Orient with an Athletes in Action team in 1984. He graduated in 1982 from Houston Academy in his hometown of Dothan.
