Greg Foster

At Oakland's Skyline High he played beside Gary Payton, and at UTEP he ran with Tim Hardaway on two WAC title teams. The Washington Bullets took the 6-foot-11 center 35th in the 1990 draft, and Foster stretched that into 13 NBA seasons with nine franchises, reaching three Finals as a reserve — twice with the 1997 and 1998 Jazz, plus a championship ring with the 2001 Lakers.

Coaching became the second act: player development with the 76ers, then assistant jobs in Milwaukee, Atlanta and Indiana. He went back to UTEP to finish his bachelor's degree in 2011. He and his wife have a son and two daughters, and he still carries a high school tattoo reading Bowie — friends thought he resembled center Sam Bowie.

HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed a one-year contract in October 1995 and stayed four seasons and both Finals runs. In February 1998 the Jazz traded him and Chris Morris to Orlando for Rony Seikaly — and got them both back two days later when Seikaly refused to report.
