Nicknamed "the Minivan," Niang was a two-time All-American at Iowa State who topped 2,000 career points and set program records for games played and wins. Drafted 50th by Indiana in 2016, he found his NBA footing in Utah, where a two-way contract in January 2018 grew into a standard deal and more than three seasons of reliable bench shooting.
The son of a Senegalese father, he showed his leadership streak early as student body president at Tilton Prep. After Utah he became a rotation regular for Philadelphia and Cleveland — playing all 82 games in 2023–24 and scoring a career-high 33 on Milwaukee — before trades took him to Atlanta and Boston in 2025.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah signed him to a two-way deal on January 14, 2018 and he grew into a reliable stretch forward over four seasons before leaving for Philadelphia. Boston sent him back in an August 2025 salary dump, and a foot injury kept him off the floor until the February 2026 Memphis trade.
