Oregon State sent Boyd to the pros as the fifth overall pick of the 1972 draft, taken by the Philadelphia 76ers. His NBA career ran from 1972 to 1978, closing with the New Orleans Jazz years of 1975 to 1978.
When the playing stopped, he taught the game, coaching at the high school and junior high levels and returning to Oregon State as an assistant coach from 1987 to 1992. Boyd died in Bakersfield, California in October 2023 at age 73.
HOW HE CAME & WENTThe Jazz claimed him off waivers from Philadelphia on January 27, 1976, and waived him themselves in October 1978.
