Undrafted out of Iowa State despite leading the Big 12 in assists as a senior, Diante Garrett earned his NBA minutes the hard way — through Croatia, France and the D-League before Phoenix gave him a debut in 2012. The Jazz signed the Milwaukee point guard in November 2013 for what became his final NBA season.
His passport did the rest of the work: Israel, Japan, a 2018 Italian Cup title with Torino, Turkey, Greece, Germany and Puerto Rico. Garrett retired in December 2024 and within weeks was back where he started, joining the Iowa State staff as an assistant coach.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah called him up from the Iowa Energy on November 13, 2013 — the season's first D-League signing — after waiving Jamaal Tinsley while Trey Burke recovered from finger surgery. The Jazz used cap room to trade him to Toronto for Steve Novak in July 2014.
