NAIA ball at Kearney State, where his 902 points and 26.5 average as a senior set school records, got the Omaha guard drafted 107th overall by Utah in 1987. As a rookie he lived with Karl Malone, played 36 games after a broken foot healed, and held Clyde Drexler below his scoring average in a playoff game. His Jazz days ended when a New Year's Eve fight with teammate Bobby Hansen broke Hansen's cheekbone, and Utah waived him two days later.

He kept grinding: the Warriors, a career-high 44 games in Seattle, seven games in Boston, and a CBA title with the Omaha Racers. With Bobby Jones and David Thompson he co-founded 2XSALT, a Christian nonprofit in Charlotte.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah drafted him 107th overall in 1987 and re-signed him. It ended at a New Year's Eve party ringing in 1989, where he struck teammate Bob Hansen and fractured his cheekbone. On January 4 the club terminated his contract for violating its conduct clause.
