They called him Big Dawg. A Wichita State star who scored a school-record 47 points in his final college game, Carr won silver with the US team at the 1982 World Championship, went eighth to Detroit in 1983, and played 16 NBA seasons. In Utah from 1994 to 1998 he was Jerry Sloan's jovial sixth man beside Karl Malone, hitting clutch jumpers in Game 5 of the 1998 Finals.

He finished with 9,176 NBA points on 50 percent shooting, playing his later years in orange-tinted goggles after an eye injury. The last stops were the ABA's Kansas City Knights and Ionikos in Greece. His brother Henry was drafted in 1987.

HOW HE CAME & WENTThe Jazz wanted a veteran big beside Karl Malone and signed the 33-year-old as a free agent on October 29, 1994, re-signing him twice more. When the last one-year deal ran out after the 1998 Finals, he was nearly 37 and Utah let it lapse.
