To stay eligible, Cheatham once retook his entire junior year of high school coursework simultaneously with his senior load — the kind of resolve that carried him from South Phoenix through San Diego State to Arizona State, where he led the Pac-12 in rebounding and recorded the second triple-double in school history. Undrafted in 2019, he debuted with New Orleans on a two-way contract.
His one Jazz appearance defines the COVID era: signed to a 10-day hardship contract on January 12, 2022, he played five minutes that night against Cleveland — his only game in Utah colors. He has since played for Bayern Munich, the New Zealand Breakers, Nagoya in Japan, and the Adelaide 36ers.
