Few draft picks carry a footnote like his: Golden State took Fuller 11th in 1996, ahead of Kobe Bryant, Steve Nash, Peja Stojakovic and Jermaine O'Neal. The NC State center had led the ACC in scoring at 20.9 a game, graduated summa cum laude in applied mathematics, and declined a Rhodes Scholarship to turn pro. His five NBA seasons included 1998–99 with the Jazz.
Mathematics won in the end. Fuller earned a master's in analytics from NC State in 2016 and became a licensed high school math teacher, sponsoring an annual math competition for Raleigh-area students. He has volunteered from Tasmania to Micronesia, and NC State raised his number 52 to the rafters in 2007.
