For many of them, this page is the only one on the internet. Here is Bernie Fryer: what he did on the floor, a few things most people never knew, and every card that carries his name. A BYU guard who led the Cougars to the 1971 WAC title with 19.2 points a game, Fryer debuted with Portland in 1973 and made the All-Rookie second team. The next season he split time between the New Orleans Jazz and the ABA's Spirits of St. Louis, then retired as a player in 1975.
The whistle gave him his real career. He refereed 1,806 NBA games from 1978 to 2007, including 11 Finals, and in 2008 became the league's Vice President and Director of Officials. He remains an advisor to the NBA.
HOW HE CAME & WENTThe former Portland guard signed as a free agent on February 1, 1975 and spent part of the franchise's very first season in New Orleans, and retired in 1975.
