A Johnstown, Pennsylvania schoolboy star, Cummings still holds Cincinnati's single-season field goal percentage record at .642 and left second only to Oscar Robertson in career field goals made. Over twelve NBA years he gave the Mavericks and Knicks four straight seasons of better than 12 points and eight rebounds, and he started the Miami Heat's first-ever game in 1988.

Utah was the last stop: after a spell in Italy, he played four games for the Jazz and was waived at 34. Inducted into Cincinnati's athletics Hall of Fame in 1990, Cummings died in June 2012, two weeks short of his 56th birthday.
