Norvel Pelle

Once rated the top center in his high school class, Pelle never played a college game because academic eligibility rulings at St. John's and Iona shut the door, so he turned pro in 2013 and built a shot-blocking career through the D-League, Taiwan, Lebanon and Italy before NBA stops with Philadelphia, Brooklyn, Sacramento, New York and, in 2021-22, Utah.

Born in St. John's, Antigua, he moved to the U.S. Virgin Islands at three and to America at seven. His father worked as a welder and his mother ran the garden center at a Home Depot. Holding Antiguan, American and Lebanese citizenship, he has played for Lebanon's national team.

HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed a 10-day hardship contract on January 7, 2022 as COVID thinned the big-man rotation, and played three games — the last of his NBA career.

  • Coaches nicknamed him Gazelle for the way he ran the floor.
  • In Taiwan he averaged 15.3 points and 14.2 rebounds for the Dacin Tigers, once posting 27 points and 26 rebounds in a single game.
  • Playing for Lebanon against the Philippines he finished with 23 points, 13 rebounds and nine blocked shots.
