Out of Maryland, Howard got one NBA season, 1976-77, and split it between two teams: nine games with the Cleveland Cavaliers, then 23 with the New Orleans Jazz. In his 32 games he averaged 4.8 points in just under eleven minutes a night.
Basketball stayed in the family. The Baltimore native is the father of basketball coach Ashley Howard.
