Jonas Jerebko

Sweden had sent only one player to the NBA draft before Detroit took him 39th in 2009, and Jerebko's hustle made him a Pistons fan favorite as a rookie before a torn Achilles cost him the entire 2010–11 season. He gave Utah a season of stretch-forward minutes in 2017–18, then signed with Golden State — and tipped in a game-winner against his old Jazz teammates with 0.3 seconds left that October.

The Warriors carried him to the 2019 Finals, and Europe followed. His 2022 signing with CSKA Moscow, a month after Russia invaded Ukraine, drew sharp criticism at home — Sweden suspended him from the national team and a sponsor walked away. He later surfaced with Santeros de Aguada in Puerto Rico.

HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed a two-year deal on July 17, 2017 as Utah rebuilt its frontcourt after Gordon Hayward left. The second season was not guaranteed, and on July 7, 2018 the Jazz waived him rather than commit $4.2 million.

  • One of the few Swedish players to have a substantial NBA career.
  • Later became an owner of a Swedish professional basketball club.
  • Gave up a scholarship to the University at Buffalo, his father's hometown school, to turn professional in Sweden.
  • Both his parents played professional basketball. His father Chris came from near Buffalo to Syracuse, then to Sweden, and settled in Kinna for good.
  • He moved alone to Massachusetts for his senior year of high school, hunting a basketball opportunity Sweden could not offer.
  • His 73 starts as a Detroit rookie are the second most in Pistons history, behind only Kelly Tripucka.
  • In 2016 he bought the Renegades esports organization, an unusual sideline for a working NBA forward.
  • He scored a career-high 23 points on ten-of-twelve shooting in only 21 bench minutes against Dallas in December 2018.
