Out of Washington's Dunbar High School, Duren stayed close to home for college, running the point at Georgetown alongside his high school teammate Craig Shelton from 1976 to 1980. He won gold with the United States at the 1979 Pan American Games and was named Big East Player of the Year as a senior. The Jazz made him the 19th overall pick in the 1980 draft, and he spent his first two professional seasons in Utah.
He moved on to the Indiana Pacers as a free agent for 1982-83, his final NBA season, and closed out his playing days with the Lancaster Lightning of the Continental Basketball Association in 1983-84.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah took him 19th overall in the 1980 draft and he debuted that October. He played two seasons of reserve minutes behind Rickey Green, then left as a free agent for Indiana in 1982 — his final NBA year.
