One collector is trying to find a single signature from every man who ever played for the Jazz — all 370 of them, from the 1974 New Orleans team to today. For many of them, this page is the only one on the internet. Here is Joe Meriweather: what he did on the floor, a few things most people never knew, and every card that carries his name. Shot-blocking made Meriweather's name. The 6-foot-10 Southern Illinois center earned All-Rookie honors with Houston, then twice blocked ten shots in a game: first for the Jazz in 1977, his only career triple-double and a franchise record until Mark Eaton came along, and again for the Knicks in 1979, a mark that still stands in New York. He played ten NBA seasons for five teams and won bronze with the US at the 1974 FIBA World Championship.
After a final season in Bologna, Italy, he turned to coaching women, leading the Kansas City Mustangs to an undefeated 1994 season and serving as head coach at Park University from 1997 to 2010. Meriweather died in Columbus, Georgia in October 2013, days short of 60.
HOW HE CAME & WENTAtlanta traded him to New Orleans on October 13, 1977 for a first-round pick, and the Jazz sent him to New York for Spencer Haywood in January 1979.
