Injuries limited the McDonald's All-American to 14 games at Kentucky, and he slid to 41st in the 2018 draft. Vanderbilt rebuilt his value in Minnesota as a relentless rebounder and defender, then arrived in Utah in the July 2022 Rudy Gobert trade. Half a season later the Jazz sent him to the Lakers, where he won the NBA's first In-Season Tournament in 2023 and signed a four-year extension.
Basketball saturates the Houston family he comes from. Father Robert played at Wiley College, mother Gwendolyn at Xavier of Louisiana, and a brother and sister played college ball as well.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe arrived on July 6, 2022 in the Rudy Gobert trade — the largest in modern Jazz history — and went to the Lakers seven months later in the Russell Westbrook deal.
