East Hampton High School won a New York state championship with Wood in 1977, and at Tennessee he teamed with future pros Reggie Johnson and Dale Ellis, earning first-team All-SEC honors as a senior and helping the Volunteers to their first Sweet Sixteen in 1981. The Utah Jazz drafted the 6-foot-7 power forward in the second round that year.
His NBA career was brief, 42 games and 3.4 points a game for the 1981-82 Jazz, but the playing life continued across the Atlantic with several seasons in Spain's premier leagues.
HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah took him 27th overall in 1981 and signed him that September. The Jazz waived him a year later, then signed the same second-round pick again in 1983.
