Danny Manning

College basketball remembers 'Danny and the Miracles' — his 31-point, 18-rebound masterpiece won Kansas the 1988 title, and his 2,951 points still lead the program. The number one pick that June, Manning came back from reconstructive surgery on both knees, made two All-Star teams, and won the 1997–98 Sixth Man Award. In Utah in 2000–01 he gave the Stockton-and-Malone Jazz bench scoring, averaging 10.6 points in the playoff series with Dallas.

The son of longtime pro Ed Manning, he moved straight into coaching — winning the 2008 national championship as a Kansas assistant, twenty years after his title as a player — and now serves as an assistant coach at Colorado.

HOW HE CAME & WENTUtah recruited him hard in August 2000 and he took the $1.2 million cap exception over $2.5 million offers elsewhere, wanting a title shot beside Stockton and Malone. He played all 82 games off the bench, then left for Dallas in 2001.
