Georgia's Mr. Basketball in 1984 and a two-time first-team All-SEC pick at Auburn, Morris went fourth overall to New Jersey in the 1988 draft. He shattered a backboard against the Bulls in 1993, scored 8,184 career points, and spent 1995–98 with the Jazz, appearing in the 1997 and 1998 NBA Finals — though he and Jerry Sloan once nearly came to blows at practice.
The road afterward ran everywhere: Olympiacos in Greece, the Harlem Globetrotters in 2001, leagues in the Philippines and Venezuela. Douglass High in Atlanta retired his number 34 in 1994.
HOW HE CAME & WENTNew Jersey's fourth overall pick in 1988 arrived in 1995 with a reputation that followed him — he and Jerry Sloan nearly came to blows at practice. Utah traded him to Orlando in February 1998, then had him back two days later when Rony Seikaly refused to report. He signed with Phoenix after the lockout.
