Boris Diaw

Few players have been as versatile — a Pau-Orthez product drafted 21st by Atlanta in 2003 who bloomed in Phoenix, winning the 2006 Most Improved Player award while filling every position from point guard to center. He hit a 34-point game-winner in the 2006 Western finals and earned a ring as a starter for San Antonio's 2014 champions, leading that Finals series in assists. Utah in 2016–17 was his final NBA season.

Captain of the French national team, he won EuroBasket gold in 2013 and World Cup bronze in 2014. He announced his retirement over Twitter in 2018 and now serves as president of Metropolitans 92 in France's Pro A.

HOW HE CAME & WENTSan Antonio sent him to Utah for the rights to Olivier Hanlan on July 8, 2016, as the Jazz added veteran passing and toughness. Utah waived him on July 13, 2017, two days before his $7.5 million salary guaranteed, having found no trade partner.

Utah was the final stop of a 14-season NBA career.
Famous around the league for travelling with an espresso machine.
His mother Elisabeth Riffiod was one of the great French women's basketball players — he grew up in the sport from both sides.
Phoenix fans knew him as 3D — a mix of his No. 3, his surname and his motto of drive, dish and defend.
He moved to Utah by driving up from San Antonio through several national parks, espresso machine riding along in the car.
Gregg Popovich mourned the trade on other grounds, saying it made our dinners a lot less fun and that Diaw was one of the only players who would drink wine with him.
His father, Issa Diaw, was a Senegalese high jump champion, and Boris later built annual basketball camps for children across Senegal.
He is a scuba and submarine explorer who has descended 300 meters, and told GQ he would accept a one-way trip to Mars.
Told by a coach that he had taken a bad shot, he responded the next game by refusing to take a single one.
