A Southern California big man from UC Irvine, Thornton was an 87th pick in 1984 who stretched it into nine NBA seasons — 283 games for five teams, the Jazz among them in 1990–91, plus three years in Italy's top league.
He never really left the gym: coaching jobs in the CBA and D-League, assistant work with the Bulls, Timberwolves and Grizzlies, four years of advance scouting for Oklahoma City, and in 2021 a move across the world to become lead assistant of Australia's Perth Wildcats.
HOW HE CAME & WENTThe Jazz signed him for the remainder of the season on April 14, 1992 and renounced his rights that June.
