Ben Handlogten

Grand Rapids raised him, and the NBA took its time: undrafted in 1996, Handlogten spent seven seasons abroad — Turkey, Japan, Italy, and Greece, where he led the league in rebounding at 12.8 a game — before Utah signed him at 29 in the fall of 2003. An ACL tear ended that first Jazz season after 17 games, but he fought his way back onto Utah's roster in 2005.

Life after basketball ran through Charlotte, North Carolina: a real estate and construction company, a head coaching job at SouthLake Christian Academy, then an executive post at a medical supply firm. His son Micah plays for the Florida Gators.

HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed as an undrafted free agent on September 30, 2003 and debuted at 29. On February 19, 2004 the Jazz traded him and Keon Clark to Phoenix, and the Suns waived him the next day.

Reached the NBA at 27 after five years in the CBA and overseas.
Was later diagnosed with a rare bone condition following the injury that ended his Jazz career.
At Western Michigan he once went twelve-for-twelve from the floor in a single game, his career scoring high.
He said playing under Jerry Sloan and his staff taught him a great deal and called Utah a very classy organization.
He grew up in Grand Rapids watching the Bad Boys Pistons, enjoying the whole championship team rather than any one player.
