The first draft pick in franchise history came out of Grambling State — New Orleans took Aaron James with the 10th pick of the second round in 1974. The 6-foot-8 small forward spent all five of his NBA seasons with the Jazz, averaging 10.8 points and 4.1 rebounds over 356 games, every one of them in a Jazz uniform.
The Utah Stars had also claimed him in the third round of the 1974 ABA draft, but James chose New Orleans and stayed until the franchise's Louisiana years ended in 1979 — his whole NBA career fit inside them.
HOW HE CAME & WENTNew Orleans used the first draft pick in franchise history on him, 28th overall in 1974, and he never played for anyone else — his five seasons were the club's five seasons in Louisiana.
