Two-time All-Big Ten at Wisconsin, Roth took the scenic route to the NBA — two seasons with Efes Pilsen in Turkey and a CBA year in Albany before the Jazz signed him in February 1988. He played 42 games for Utah, finished his NBA time with San Antonio and expansion Minnesota, and closed his playing days in Spain, Greece, and Turkey.
Coaching became the true career: NBA assistant stints in Dallas, Memphis, and Toronto, a EuroBasket silver on Turkey's staff in 2001, and finally Australia, where he built the expansion Tasmania JackJumpers from scratch — NBL Coach of the Year in their first season and champions in 2024.
HOW HE CAME & WENTThe Jazz signed him out of the CBA on February 25, 1988 and he debuted four days later. He signed with San Antonio in January 1989.
