For many of them, this page is the only one on the internet. Here is Carey Scurry: what he did on the floor, a few things most people never knew, and every card that carries his name. Long Island University sent the Brooklyn-born forward to the NBA, where he spent three seasons from 1985 to 1988 with the Jazz and Knicks, averaging 4.7 points. The longer career came abroad — Greece, Spain, Argentina, Chile and Brazil, where coach Helio Rubens Garcia rated him the third-most-talented player he ever coached. The Northeast Conference named him to its 25th-anniversary team in 2006.
His younger brother Moses played on UNLV's 1990 NCAA champions. Scurry died on May 18, 2026, at age 63.
HOW HE CAME & WENTThe Jazz took him 37th overall in 1985 and he debuted that October. His minutes shrank, and in January 1988 Utah waived him after he argued with Frank Layden on the bench during a game in Milwaukee.

- Came out of Long Island University, one of the smallest programs represented in franchise history.
- Won back-to-back Northeast Conference Player of the Year awards, and his 14.1 rebounds a game as a senior is still a conference record.
- He helped LIU reach the 1984 NCAA tournament, only the second appearance in the school's history.
- Utah took him in 1985, the same draft that brought Karl Malone, a year after the Jazz found John Stockton.
- Injuries from a car accident in Barcelona finally forced him to retire.
- His Jazz career ended after he argued with coach Frank Layden on the bench during a game in Milwaukee.
- In 1986-87 he made the only five starts of his career and set personal bests of 5.0 points and 2.9 rebounds in under eleven minutes a game.
- His last NBA work was a 10-day contract with the Knicks in his home city — four games and two points in all — before New York released him on March 22, 1988.
