Born in Mostar, he came up through Real Madrid's system and starred for Cibona Zagreb and Fenerbahce before crossing over — a 2011 second-round pick who arrived in Brooklyn in 2014 and once scored 44 in a game for the Nets. The Jazz signed him in July 2019 for four years and 73 million dollars, the richest deal ever for a Croatian athlete, and he answered with two buzzer-beating game-winners in his first Utah season.
He chose to play internationally for Croatia, a decision he traced partly to his bond with Cibona. Detroit and New York rounded out his NBA years. A 2024 trade to Brooklyn brought no games, and he retired in June 2025.
HOW HE CAME & WENTHe signed a four-year, $73 million contract on July 7, 2019. When the rebuild started, Utah traded him to Detroit on September 26, 2022 for Kelly Olynyk, Saben Lee and cash.
